Will I be able to activate the same copy of Office 2003 on both my PC and my
laptop?

Yes, if it's a retail not an OEM copy. The EULA should make that clear.

No, for each install you'll need a separate license.

Roady,

I just did a search on Google, which took me to a Microsoft FAQ page. I was
trying to find this information earlier but couldn't. The reason I had asked
was I was trying to install the version of Outlook 2002 I got with my PDA,
onto my laptop. I've already installed it on my PC. Well, it wouldn't
install and the Microsoft rep said had it been a stand alone purchase, I
could have installed it on the notebook as well.

I asked her if I could install a stand alone version of Office 2003 on two
computers and she said yes, one PC and one laptop. I guess I didn't believe
her because I came out here and posted.

I then read your post and decided to do a search on Google, and below is
what I got off the Microsoft site. Do you know different than this? I
certainly don't want to buy it if I can't install on it the notebook.

Thanks,

JD

Licensing and Compatibility
Q. Will you require product activation for the 2003 release of
Microsoft Office?
A. Yes. You can activate the software by providing your country/region
name and product identification number, but you don't have to provide any
identifying information.

Q. How many activations/installations will be allowed for each license
of the 2003 release of Microsoft Office?
A. You can install Office Small Business Edition 2003 on a total of
two computers: one desktop computer and one portable computer, provided that
the purchaser of the software is the exclusive owner and user of the two
computers. To install Office Small Business Edition 2003 on more than two
computers, you must acquire another license of Office Small Business
Edition. Licenses for Office Small Business Edition 2003 acquired
preinstalled on a new computer are single-computer licenses. You cannot
transfer these licenses or install them on another computer.

JD,

You can legally install any MS program on two computers:
a desktop, and a portable. The EULA plainly states this,
and the FAQ page you found verifies it.

Cheers,
Bill

It depends on the version. OEM versions are stricktly for the PC that it
came with. Since you got it with your mobile you can install it (as stated
already) on your notebook as well.

The EULA for many Microsoft products, Outlook included, state that you are
allowed to install a product on a desk top and a laptop, provided you don't
use it in both places simultaneously. Here's a quote:

Installation and Use. You may:

(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or
other device; and
(b) install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable
device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the
Software.
