I have two xp pro machines but only one can connect to the internet (cable),
by wireless connection to router. The 2 computers are temporarily joined by
crossover cable since the router is inaccessible (in a closet) to machine #
2.

I have tried to share the connection on the machine with the wireless, but I
get an error saying that 192.168.0.1 is unavailable (the router is using
it). Is there any way around this?

As you discovered you can't use ICS and a router providing NAT/DHCP at the
same time. Get a wireless NIC for your second computer or move the router
to a location where you can connect the second computer to it with an
ethernet cable.
