How have one click on tree of Explorer?

My Windows Explorer shows a folder tree on the left hand side and a
list of files/folders on the right hand side.

How can I select & open items in the folder tree with a single click?
I have seen the folder tree underline the folder name when the cursor
points at it and this is what I want.

But my XP-SP1 does not do that.

If I use Tools > Options > Single Click to Open then it also affects
the right side (which I do not want).

So how can I have one click to open a branch on the tree of
Explorer?

So how can I have one click to open a branch on the tree of Explorer?

Did you try clicking on the plus sign in front of the folder?
