How hard is it to do IMAP?!?

Seriously, it's been around for ages, and Microsoft supposedly has a bunch of
smart people working for them, so how come the Office 2010 beta performs just
as horribly with IMAP as 2007 did? Is it really that hard? My IPHONE
handles IMAP e-mail better than Outlook - how sad is that? The free
Thunderbird client does better too! Good grief...

Care to give some examples of which improvements you are after?

I won't be the first in line telling the IMAP implementation in Outlook is
perfect but you have not given any arguments in your post or even mentioned
your difficulties with the way IMAP has been implemented now.

It just hangs for no reason when doing a send/receive. Sometimes you have to
kill Outlook from the taskbar and restart. Occasionally it's possible to go
into the "show details" of the send/receive and it's usually stopped on the
synchronizing folders step. If I cancel that (sometimes it lets me, others
it hangs) then it will work for a while more before hanging again. Same
issues you can find time and time again if you do a Google search for IMAP
and Outlook. Folks have been complaining since Outlook 2007 came out and it
still isn't right. Oddly enough, most posts I read indicate 2003 was just
fine.

Also, this has happened to me on a clean install of WinXP with Outlook 2007,
clean install of Vista with Outlook 2007, clean install of Windows 7 with
Outlook 2007 and clean install of Windows 7 with Outlook 2010, so it's not an
issue of add-ins or other 3rd party software. I don't think its an issue
with the server either, as iPhone and other e-mail apps work great.
