Windows XP How Eliminate White Edge Around Photo?

I use Microsoft Photodraw.

I crop my pictures. Lately the pics have a 'white edge' around them so when I put them in a colored cell, the unattractive white edge shows up.

Cropping doesn't help. The 'view all in background" doesn't help.
I even tried putting a border but the white edge stays on the outermost edge.
Previously my photos didn't have this problem.

Any advice how to get rid of that white edge? Thanks in advance.
