In PowerPoint, how can one paste a picture or text block from one slide to
another in exact register with where it was on the slide originally. The
program defaults to shifting it to the right and down, but I need it to
maintain registration exactly.

Generally it does the shift when pasting from and back to the same slide but
keeps register when pasting to a different slide.

If it shifts, usually pressing the up arrow twice and the left arrow twice
lines it back up again.

I hem, I haw, I hedge, I surround everything with qualifiers because there are
variations between versions and your grid settings, birth sign and phase of
moon may affect the specifics.

On the other hand, if you grab the free PPTools Starter Set at
http://starterset.pptools.com it includes a button that lets you memorize the
exact position and optionally size of any shape and another that "hammers" any
other shape to exactly that position.
