hi,
probably a simple answer but i'm not sure...

I installed xp pro and gave myself admin rights and created a user for my
son (limited rights). How does he now install his games? will xp ask for a
password? Should the game be loaded under my login? If I load the game
under my login, when my son logs on, will he have access to the game?

I hope i don't sound too dumb, but i have been putting off the transposition
from W2K and Win98, but finally bit the bullet last night.

thank you

install it under administrator for sure.
Still, you could change your son's account to be part of the administrator
group long enough to install the games

a better solution would be to install the game within the security context
of the limited (son's) account, BUT launch the game's installer in the
security context of Administrator. simply right-click on the setup.exe (or
whatever the game's installer is called) and select 'Run as...' from the
popup menu, then click the 'The following user' radio button and type the
name and password of an account with administrative privileges, and press
OK.

the game's installer will run with administrative privileges, be able
install its files and change the registry. after the installation
completes, the actual game software runs in the security context of a
limited user.
