I turned off the outline feature in Word 2003 which automatically creates an
outlines in a Word document and do not know how to turn in on again.

Can someone help me?

I suspect you mean Outline view. Take a look under the view menu.

At times when you are creating an outline in a document an icon will appear
that looks like a lightning bolt. At some point , a dialogue box appeared
and asked would you like to disable the outline feature (or something to that
effect). I clicked "yes" because for some reason at that point in my work
when I would hit enter the tab would be set too far too the middle of the
next line. I preferred to set the number manually to avoid this problem.

I discover now, however, that I have disabled the outline "feature"
permanently. Now Word will not create outlines of my notes as before, which
is very convenient. I hope I am clear in my explanation.
