How do you stop IE6 from being hijacked?

Hey all,

I'm a frequent victim of a browser hijack. I'm running Windows XP and have
IE6. I know how to remove the hijackers, spyware, malware, and viruses. I
know all and what do to about them. I just want to know how to prevent them
from happening over and over again. I do windows update all the time, I'm
always updating and running Spybot and Ad-aware, I update my Norton
Anti-virus, I have system restore off, and I have the "hijackthis" software.
It's really annoying that everytime I remove them and then reboot, I get
hijacked again!! I want this damn thing outta here, it's way annoying!!
Windoze software sucks!! How do you prevent your browser from getting
hijacked?? Does ZoneAlarm (the firewall) prevent it from happening? Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the hijacker that highjackthis keeps detecting:

"R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

Hi Brian,
B/c IE is so populare it's hard to stop it from being
hijacked without stoping surfing the web. But one of the
easier methods to stop this is to change browsers for most
of your surfing. Firefox 0.8 works very silmarly to IE and
has a built in pop up blocker. It can not do everything IE
can and it's still possable to get hijacked when running
it but it does majorly limit how often it happens and how
bad it is. (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/)
An other suggestion is before you start cleaning your
computer to disconnect it from the internet as this helps
to prevent re-infection.
Lastly but most importently, look at where your surfing
(or where other people who use your computer are surfing),
remeber READ these pops so that you don't install stuff
yourself. Try not installing stuff that uses GAIN or other
ad-ware.
Yes firewalls are a great idea however they do no
prevent spyware from running. They do prevent
spyware/malware from getting to the internet. If your on
cable internet then YES get a firewall they help prevent
lots of nasty thing happening to your computer and your
computer from doing thing on the internet without you
knowing about it. :)

Here's a few pointers:
- install zonealarm (free version is good enough)
- install and update a virus scanner
- put your cookie security on high in IE
- put your IE security on high and only lower it on
trusted sites.
- disable file and printer sharing
that should keep most of the gunk out
