How do you specify which DC the GP is replicated from?

Hi All,

I am running a W2k AD network with a mix of W2k and XP clients.

When you run GPResult.exe (which I downloaded from MS.com) on the W2k
clients, you get the following data:

COMPUTER SETTINGS
------------------
CN=LARRY,OU=Larry's World,DC=domain,DC=com,DC=au
Last time Group Policy was applied: 3/10/2005 at 1:50:05 PM
Group Policy was applied from: server1.domain.com.au
Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps

USER SETTINGS
--------------
CN=Larry,OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com,DC=au
Last time Group Policy was applied: 3/10/2005 at 1:09:26 PM
Group Policy was applied from: server1.plantech.com.au
Group Policy slow link threshold: 500 kbps

Obviously there's more, but not relevant to my question below:

When I run GPReult.exe on the XP boxes, I get a mixed return as to which
server the GP was applied from, it could be Server1, Server2 or Server3 (all
of which are DC's that run AD), and it seems random.

I seem to remember some way at the command prompt to specify which DC the
client is to get the GP from. I need to specify the DC becaouse one of the
servers is stuffed and is handing out older versions of my policies.

Does anyone know what the command / switch is?

If anyone could help, I would be very appreciative

Thanks in advance

Larry

Group Policy will be applied by the authenticating DC. There is no easy way
to force clients to use a particular DC although it can be done by some
manual editing of the DC list in DNS, not something you need to do by the
sound of it. Check that your AD Sites & Services console has all your sites
and subnets set up correctly as this is how the DC locator process decides
what DC a client should use.
Sounds like the obvious solution is to demote your problem DC?
