How do you get the cursor into the next column?

I know this will be the dumbest question you have all heard, but I don't
generally use word processing programs.

I'm trying to create a mock-up of a form for a new service I'm offering in
my business and I'd like to use 3 columns.

I set up the colums just fine but how do you get the cursor to switch to the
next column?

Ordinarily Word expects you to fill one column before trying to put text in
another, but you can insert a column break in a partially filled column
using Ctrl+Shift+Enter.

Don't use "snaking" or "newspaper" columns. Instead, make a 3-column table.

See http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/UsingColumns.htm for
suggestions.
