How do you get tabbed browsing to work in IE7 other than turning i

It is hard to tell what you are trying to do from the skimpy information you
give. Basically, IE7 starts with the home page tab and a very small tab to
its right. Click on the small tab. This will start a second browser page
with another small tab to its right, and so on.

Have you clicked on IE7 Help and selected Internet Explorer Tour? If you do
not see the Menu Bar, click on Tools and then Menu Bar to have the Menu Bar
show.

You are using Windows XP (Insert Version Here) with Service Pack 3
Pre-Release?
What happens if you go back to the last full released Service Pack (SP2) and
Internet Explorer 7?

SP3 for Windows XP doesn't exist yet. What you are using is a
pre-release test version. It should not be surprising that some things
don't work when you use a test version. If that's your only problem,
you should probably consider yourself lucky.

Tabbed browsing in IE7 is working for OK for me with SP3 RC (the version
available to the public).

Have you installed IE7? If so, did you install IE7 prior to installing
WinXP SP3 *Beta*?

I didn't mean to specifically say that that function wasn't
working--only that problems are to be expected with pre-released
software. It if were problem-free, it would be released, not
pre-release.

Sure problems should be expected with pre-release software.

Having said that, now that MS has released SP3 RC for public trial (with all
the usual warnings and caveats) I think we have to expect that this
newsgroup will increasing see requests for help with it. After all, where
else do folks trying it out go for help but the xp newsgroups and web-based
forums?

My view is different from yours. Anyone running pre-release operating
system software, unless he is someone who enjoys playing with these
things and is doing it on a spare non-production machine with full
awareness that he might at any time lose *everything* on the drive, is
playing with fire. I think that most people don't realize that risk,
and it's incumbent upon the regulars here to discourage people from
doing that.

It is incumbent on us to pass on warnings and caveats but it is not for us
to judge why folks choose to use the software once MS has made it available
to them. The SP3 train is coming down the tracks and we might as well
update ourselves and get on board.

Maybe for you (and perhaps many?).

If I had my druthers, I'd go back to SP1, or perhaps even SP0!, i.e., plain
vanilla XP. Less potential software incompatibilities that way. Plus
I could get back my automatic OE background compacting OPTION, thank you
very much. :)

I'm talking about helping others in the newsgroup, not personal preferences
(which sometimes get in the way of helping others). For better or for
worse, this will soon become the principal XP SP3 newsgroup.

We agree completely on that. I said "discourage," not "prohibit."

Of course.

First of all, in IE click on Help/About Intenet Explorer and post the
version number.
