How do you discontinue the home network

I've decided I want to discontinue the home network I setup on my laptop (XP
sp2), as the host. File and print sharing is off, but I want to ensure that
the service is totally stopped for security over the internet. Is there a
way? If not, should I be concerned?
Thanks,

This fix seems to be for stopping a wireless network. In my case, I still
want to maintain that, just stop the ms home network on the host computer.

You can stop and disable the Server service, but it isn't necessary.

An Internet-connected computer needs a firewall, and the firewall
should prevent other Internet users from detecting or accessing the
computer.

One way to look at it is that if you have 2 or more machines which are
physically or wirelessly connected in some manner and they are running a
common network protocol (eg. TCP/IP), then you have a network no matter what
you do.

If you are primarily concerned about sharing and incoming connections, just
use the firewall with no exceptions. If you do not want to 'see' the
workgroup, just turn off the Computer Browser service on all machines.
