How do you change Icons in xp pro?

First, you can't change the icon of executable files and I think you don't
want to.

For shortcuts > Right click it > Choose Properties> Click Change Icon

For a single Folder > Right click it > Choose Properties > Go to "Customize"
tab > Click Change icons

I will recommend a program like Style XP, Object Desktop.
StyleXP let you customize icons, logon screens, boot screens,and add themes
and much more.....
