How do you alphabatize contacts in a distribution list by last nam

my contacts are listed in alphabetical order by last name in my address books
but when I build a distribution list they always show up in alphabetical
order by first name. How do I get them in my distribution list by last name?
I am using Microsoft Office Outlook on Window's XP Professional version 2002
service pack 2.

Normally, DL's will follow the sort order you specify for the Outlook
Address Book, but only if you created both the Contact Record and the DL in
the current version of Outlook. If not, then you can't change the sort
order.

There must be some other answer, I have the same "problem" with DL - Win XP;
OL 2002 SP3 - I -- have contacts sorted by "file as" but the contact in the
DL sort ny first name.
I have sort by "file as" specificied in the Current view file summary - is
there a different place in OL to specifiy sort order? a global specification
maybe you refer to below. All contacts and the DL were created in this
version of OL

There isn't another answer. DL's behave so erratically and so poorly that
most of us do not use them. There is hardly any call for sorting a DL since
they are not used dynamically.
There is a hidden field called the Subject field that Outlook used to use to
sort a PAB. Try changing all those and report back whether it works or not.
