How do the experts clean up ......

....... the disks or delete temp files?

Ever since I have started to use PPT, disk space disappears fast. So, I
want to think "clean up." The least I can do is to delete the temp files. I
can do one or all of the following. I appreciate recommendations as to which
method does a better job in deleting most if not all temp files and not
causing any problems.

(1) Start - Run - %temp%

(2) Start - Run - cleanmgr

(3) Do a search for files ---> *.tmp,*.chk,~*.* then do ctrl+A and delete

(4) Use freeware www.ccleaner.com

I wonder how the experts delete temp files. Welcome input.

Thanks.

Hi,

I run a batch file on start up that deletes what is in the temp folder.

I do this one, but I actually only search for *.tmp files.

I also empty the temporary internet files folder and run a defrag fairly
regularly.

1) I too use ccleaner. It's great. I also use ATF cleaner (it clears out all
the temp crud for all the 'usernames' on a PC, without being logged in as
each username)

2) Have a look in c:\windows\temp
Have a look in c:\documents and settings\your username\local settings\temp\

You will need to set windows explorer to "show all files" in tools > options

3) Otherways to save disk space....

convert all TIFF files to PNG.
Zip up WAV files (after you've finished with them)
Zip up PSD (photoshop) files after you've finished with them.

4) Manually have a look around your hard disk... you'd be surprised what
crud gets left around....
c:\programs files\ etc

Thank you all for your input. Two people on a PC forum recommended
ccleaner. I took a tour and I liked what I saw. But I wasn't sure enough
to try it. Now that I have TAJ's vote, I will really look into it. If I am
not mistaken, ccleaner does more than cleanup; it can fix registry too?? I
think I should at least try %temp% or .tmp. I should make a point not to
empty the recycle bin for a few days, after I have deleted the files. Just
in case, I need them back. Regarding TAJ's #4, I feel the same.

I appreciate your support.

Cheers,

Me also. I also have a number of scratch folders that get cleaned out at the
same time.

Yea, that's what I am using now, but an older version (haven't get to update
to the latest yet).
