how do I view the icons in my mail instead of seeing a n X in a box? I am
using outlook 2003

Icons as in images embedded in the message body? Did you click on the
infobar or right click on the X and enable the downloaded content?

so they aren't 'blocked external content' - look in the source and see where
they are coming from - attached or from a web server.
