How do I use address book when printing envelopes?

I am using Microsoft Word 2000 SR-1
When printing envelopes there is an address button that looks like you
should be able to select exsisting addresses. When I select the button it
says that something ( I do not recognize what it is) has not been loaded. How
do I find out what to load?

Also when I open an existing document in MS Word I have to first click
somewhere in the document to do anything with it. If I do not click first in
the document it freezes and I have to use ctl alt del to exit out of it and
then re-open it. Can anyone help with this problem?

There are two separate issues here:

The first concerns the addresses. To use this function you need to have a
MAPI compliant address book available and essentially that means Outlook. If
you have Outlook set as your default e-mail application, then what does the
error message say? Use detect and repair to ensure that essential files are
present.

As pointed out you need to have an Outlook Address Book, and for best results
it should be installed in the Corporate Workgroup mode. This feature has
pretty limited functionality in the IMO (Internet Mail Only) mode. Once you
do that this button will open up to your contacts so you can select one.
Click on it and OL/Word will insert that person's name and address. It will
probably give you the choice of the person's mailing, home or "other"
address. The feature (AddressLayout) is part of Auto text. You can modify
it for better results, including , e.g., inserting the person's Company if
there is one or skipping to the next line without leaving a blank line if
there is none.
