How do I upgrade Remote Wonder drivers?

I have an AIW 8500DV and a Remote Wonder.

ATI Catalyst Control Center is using 1.2.2172.2074 drivers
and the Remote Wonder uses 1.4 drivers.

Is there a way to upgrade to newer drivers for the
Remote Wonder? What's the benefit/is it worth it?

I understand that 3.03 is the latest version of RW drivers that works
with the 8500DV.

I've tried installing newer Remote Wonder drivers but with no success.
What's the correct way of doing it? I don't have MMC installed,
and would prefer not to install it.

Thanks for your help.

Are you sure you have Remote Wonder and not Remote Wonder Plus or Remote
Wonder II (love those ATI naming schemes!) In any case, it's available at

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

Make sure you uninstall the old version first and DON'T install the Windows
Update for windriver. If you've already installed the windriver update,
uninstall it before reinstalling RW.

The remote wonder installer is missing some C runtime files needed by
the remote wonder. You can get these files here
http://www.enigmavision.com/FAQ/default.htm and copy them into the
C:\Windows\System32 before running the installer.

Older versions of the software used to randomly crash on me, even when
I wasn't using the remote. I haven't had any problems since I was
able to get the latest version (3.04) installed.

Yes it's the remote wonder, the first one.

what is that update? do you know the number for it? I have no idea
if it's been installed or not and can't find any reference to it on my
computer or on the microsoft website.

remote-wonder 3-03_rw_enu.exe still wouldn't install properly

I did what you suggested and remote-wonder 3-03_rw_enu.exe still wouldn't
install and I got one of the error messages on that webpage.

Is there another company as useless as ATI?

That update is a hardware update:

Optional hardware updates
Jungo WinDriver
Powerware Corporation - Other Hardware - WinDriver
Download size: 216 KB , less than 1 minute
Jungo system software update released on September 07 2004.
remote-wonder 3-03_rw_enu.exe still wouldn't install properly

Here are the steps you need to follow:
1) Uninstall Remote Wonder software (may need to reboot).
2) Go to C:\windows\inf and search for all the oem###.inf that contain
the word "windriver".
3) Remove all the oem###.inf and oem###.pnf files.
4) Run REGEDIT and remove all entries that contains "windriver"
5) Remove windriver.* and x10*.* from C:\windows\system32 and
C:\windows\system32\driver.
6) Reboot
7) Re-install the remote wonder software.

Tom,

I followed your instructions to the letter, and then reinstalled the 3.03
drivers but the remote still doesn't work. The only version that worked ever
was 1.4

I noticed that uninstalling the previous try still left the RemCtrl directory
so I removed it. Regedit found no instances of "windriver".

Thanks anyway for your help, I relaly appreciate it.
