I have upgraded from Windows 2000 and have a buyer for Windows
2000 (retail) but need to know how I can unregister so he can assume
the program. Thanks

Do you really have to "Unregister" W2K?
I had an extra OEM copy of W2K which I gave to my father... and simply
re-registered it to him when I installed it on his computer.

I figured I was within the letter-of-the-licensing-agreement because that CD
was no longer installed on my computer... and the "Microsoft Police" never
complained.

Take a look at the EULA for w2k... it probably says what you can or cannot
do...

turn over all materials ie install cd/manual do not retain
any backups of that disc, make sure and give him the
install key. erase all traces of w2k from your pc, and he
will
assume ownership from that point.

Greetings --

If you truly used the Win2K license to "qualify" for the use on an
Upgrade, then you may _not_ transfer the Win2K to another. As part of
the upgrade process, the original, qualifying license becomes
"subsumed" into the new operating system license.

However, if you replaced Win2K with a _full_ version of the new
OS, you may transfer ownership of the Win2K license by passing along
the installation media, the Product Key, and all accompanying
documentation.
