Two days ago I moved a .pst file from one machine to another

Now when I try to repeat the operation I get a message saying "cannot copy
outlook. The process cannot access the file because another process has
locked a portion of the file"

W
How did I do this, and how do I unlock it?

Dear,

try to move the pst file from the source computer to a different folder in
the same pc - is that success? yes then try to copy now (are u doing through
network)
Check in the source computer task manager - for any outlook instance.
Close outlook (on both the pcs) before doing this operation.
Better restart both the pcs - before doing this operation.

Make sure that Outlook is closed - if in doubt go to Task Manager-Processes
and check that Outlook.exe is not still running, even if you have closed
Outlook. Also check that Word is not running, if you use Word as your email
editor.

Recently, I had to open an old Outlook PST file, which had a lot of important emails and contacts, but I couldn't remember the password. After a lot of effort, I tried the GainTools PST Password Recovery Tool, and believe me, it recovered the password in just a few minutes.

Easy to use
Without any data loss
Works with any Outlook version.
