I was trying to reformat my computer and reinstall Windows XP Professional.
When i tried to install it, it said that the version on my computer was newer
than the verson on the CD and forced me to close the installer. I currently
have Windows XP Pro with SP2 and i need to know how i can remove SP2 so that
i can reinstall XP Pro...any help would be greatly appreciated

Try `Restoring` your computer to the earliest time possible OR uninstall the
SP2 patches in Add\Remove programs (tick the `show updates` at the top of
that page. HTH.

Mr

Did you try to install from within Windows, or did you boot from the CD?..

It is possible to remove SP2, assuming that you left the 'uninstall' files
intact (that is to say that you didn't do a manual cleanup after the SP2
installation) by going to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and clicking on SP2..

To save you removing and re-installing SP2 at some point, you can make a
slipstream version of your XP CD by going to the website below and reading
through the instructions for a repair install.. look to the menu on the left
side of the website to select 'repair'..

You do not need to uninstall SP2 if your goal is
to reformat your drive and perform a "clean install"
of Windows XP. Follow these instructions:

The Windows XP CD is bootable and contains all the tools necessary
to partition and format your drive. Follow this procedure and allow
Windows XP to partition and format your drive:

NOTE: It would be best to physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware
devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard, before installing XP.

NOTE: If you have an internal Zip Drive installed, physically disconnect the
EIDE and power cable to it before proceeding, otherwise your main
hard drive may not be assigned the customary C: drive letter.
After installing Windows XP, you may then reconnect it.

1. Open your BIOS and set your "CD Drive as the first bootable device".

2. Insert your Windows XP CD in the CD Drive and reboot your computer.
3. You'll see a message to boot to the CD....follow the instructions.
4. The setup menu will appear and you should elect to delete all the existing
Windows partitions, then create a new partition, then format the primary
partition (preferably NTFS) and proceed to install Windows XP.

5. Clean Install Windows XP

6. ==> Immediately after installing Windows XP, turn on XP's Firewall.

7. After Windows XP is installed, visit the Windows Update website
and download the available "Critical Updates".

8. After installing the critical updates, be sure and visit the support website
of the manufacturer of the computer to download and install any
available Windows XP compatible drivers, such as video adapter
and audio drivers.

9. If you happen to run into any installation difficulties, use the following resources:

Instead of removing SP2, create an XP installation CD slipstreamed with
SP2.
