How do I type text once & make it appear in more than one place.

I am wanting to set up a template document in Word that has information on
the first page in fields and then I want it to automatically update various
form fields within the document with information from this first page.

Is this possible - I just thought that this was such a simple request, I
know if I was to do it in excel it would be a case of making one cell =
another but not so easy in Word.
