how do I turn on the reading pane option in the view menu it is greyed out
and so is the refresh option

Are you in a corp. environment? Did the admin disable it? If not, try
tools,
customize and reset the menu bar.

That didn't help reading pane is still greyed out. No I not in a corporate
environment.
