Hi, I just bought a new computer which has Windows XP Home. My old computer
has Windows 98SE. How do I transfer my IE6 favorites from one computer to
another? I don't have a CD-RW or floppy drive; however, I have an external
100 MB zip drive and four 100 MB zip disks. I also have a router connecting
both computers, but am not networked yet. I prefer to use zip disks to do
the transfer. Thanks for any advice!

If you go to the directory where the Favorites are located on the one
computer, and then copy/burn them to the Zip disk, then you can copy them
into the Favorites folder on the other computer. The Favorites are just
copies of the links, so you can copy them to into the Favorites folder on
the other computer.

If you are not sure which directory your folder is in, type Favorites in the
Search window and run a search to find it. You can do the same thing on the
other computer to be sure you get them in the right folder.

Use the inbuilt facility.
IE-File-Export on the Win98 machine.
Create a single html file, transfer it to a floppy and use File-Import
on the new machine.

Thanks Jan. But unfortunately, I cannot find them using the search window.
Do you know where they are located?

Julie:
On the 98SE machine, copy "favorites" to a zip disk.

Insert the zip disk in your XP machine's zip drive.
My computer > C: > documents & settings > "your user
account" > favorites.

In another window, "my computer" > zip drive > favorites.
Open "favorites". Select & copy the files / folders.

Go to the c:\documents and settings \ "user
account"\favorites. Paste.

If only 1 of the computers has a zip drive, you can email
the contents of "favorites" on your 98SE machine to
yourself. Hotmail allows a 2 MEG limit. Yahoo allows a 4
MEG limit.

OR

On the 98SE machine
IE: File > import / export > export favorites

Then, on the XP machine
IE: File > import / export > import favorites
