How do I sync Outlook 2003 with my cell phone using Vista?

I simply want to sync my smartphone via USB with Outlook 2003. I do NOT want
any media, video, pictures or any other "entertainment" files, only Outlook
contacts, calendar, etc. Everything is connected and I had no problems
sync-ing with XP. However the Vista Media Center "improvement" over Active
Sync is unfathomable. I'm at a dead stop. Please help! Thanks
