how do i supress a document header in Word?

in preparing a manuscript for publication, all pages except the first need a
header, but the first does not. I cannot manage to suppress the header on
the first page, or get the header to start on page 2. Please help.
 
In page setup - go to layout, and click different first page. You may have
to re-enter your header on the second page, but that should work.
