How do I stop word looking for shortcut now in recycle bin?

Each time I start up Word 2003 it says "Missing Shortcut" and continues to
look for named shortcut. The short cut was for a folder that has since been
been emptied and deleted (moved to recycle bin). How can I stop Office 2003
Word from looking for this shortcut at startup? I read Help instructions but
still am unable to stop it. Help says "go to My Places bar". I don't know
where that is. I attempted through Tools/Customize but that did not stop the
problem. I am running Windows XP. Help.
