How do I stop virus checks when I open excel?

Every time I open up Excel, at the bottom left of the window, I see "virus
scan" taking place multiple times. I want to speed up opening Excel by not
having those scans take place.

Jeff,
You probably have several add-ins that load up when Excel starts. You can
turn the add-ins off by going to 'Tools', Add-ins...' and unchecking the
addins.
