How do I stop Outlook from downloading messages repeatedly

Program freezes after downloading some messages and offers to send report.
If I refuse, program closes and then spontaneously starts again and repeats
the same action, over and over again. Each time adding a few more messages
that are all repeats of the same message. How do I stop this from happening?

Outlook is going to start over each time. The server won't remove them
until it has confirmed that the client has received all the messages.

Maybe this is a problem message for whatever reason (malformed, corrupt).

I would consider:
- running detect and repair on Outlook under the Help menu.
- ensure you are on the latest Office service packs and patches
- access your email through an alternate means to delete the offending
message (don't most ISPs offer webmail for your inbox?)
- call your ISP and have them access your mailbox and delete the offending
message.
