How do I stop multiple web browser windows opening?

Pertains to Outlook 2003. I receive many Outlook documents that contain
multiple hyperlinks within them. Each time I click a hyperlink a new browser
window opens. This did not previously happen in 2000 version. Can this be
changed through some settings? If so, how/where? Thanks.

This is most likely a feature of your web browser, and should be configured there.

My home web browser and my work web browser are configured exactly the same
except that home is operated on XP and work is 2003. Prior to migration of
2003 (windows 2000) this problem did not exist. Also, I can click on
hyperlinks directly from my web browser and only one window opens. Our IT
person at work told me that it is an inherent setting in Outlook but does not
how or if it can be changed. Thanks, Marcy

This cannot be changed in Outlook 2003. The option to open each link
into its own window was requested by many Outlook users and Microsoft
has finally granted their wishes.

Another post in one of the Outlook newsgroups indicates that this was
intended. Apparently enough people complained to Microsoft that they didn't
like links opening in the same IE window so for OL 2003, Microsoft changed
the behavior. How those who don't like that are complaining.

In 2002 the default behavior was to take over an existing window. You could
override this behavior by pressing shift when you clicked, which then opened
a new window. Apparently in 2003 (I'm running 2002) they changed the default
behavior to open a new window. Try pressing shift when you click the link
and see if it uses an existing window...

Thanks MojoBaer. I'm running 2000 at home right now and shift does open a
separate window. I will try shift on the 2003 version at work on Monday.

Must be a way to override it like there was a way to override multiple
windows in 2000 and 2002. Thanks for the info. Cheers.

Thanks. Wasn't aware it was such a problem to prior users. Should be a way to
override it though like there was in 2000 and 2002 versions by using Shift
click. Cheers.

If Mozilla 1.7.12 is set as your default browser, clicking a hyperlink in an
Outlook 2003 email message will open the link in the active window or tab. I
have not tested this in Firefox or Netscape - but it may very well work in
those browsers as they are built on the same engine. The about:config page
may also be helpful (type about:config in the address window and press Enter).

Just another reason to ditch Internet Explorer... :)
