How do I stop getting a blank line after hitting ENTER key?

After typing a few lines in a document I may want to start a new line.
However, if I hit ENTER to return to the beginning of the next line my cursor
jumps a line and I get a white space (blank line) which I don't want. In
Word 2002 I had to hit ENTER twice if I wanted a blank line and I would like
to have this same feature as a default in Word 2007.

The default style 'Normal' currently has 1.5 lines of paragraph spacing
defined. Change the default style to the predefined 'No Space' paragraph
style (Word options > advanced > default paragraph style).
