How do I stop explorer from automatically switching between window

C

ChevyDev

I will have multiple windows open with various things loading. For instance,
when typing an email, a process will finish and that window will suddenly
become active. I just want to stay in my current window. How can I regain
control and sanity? Please help!!!

Prevent Programs from Stealing Focus - Undo (Line 66)

When a window that does not have focus is updated by its program, the
default setting prevents it from becoming the foremost (top) window,
instead, it flashes in the taskbar.

HeldUp is the easiest way to stop windows from disappearing behind other
programs. http://www.johnmacintyre.ca/HeldUp.asp

Install Microsoft's free utility TweakUI

Then start it up and go to:
General->Focus->
and check the "Prevent applications from stealing focus" box.

This tweak may help, and can be reversed if you don't like the effect:
