How do I stop auto styles being created? Can I be prompted yes or no.

Thank you.

There are two answers to this question depending on what you mean by "auto
styles."

1. If you mean that Word is applying its built-in styles based on its best
guess of what you're trying to do, then disable "Define styles based on my
formatting" on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect
Options. (And see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TameAutoFormat.htm)

2. If by "auto styles" you mean things like Normal+Bold, then these are not
styles but "formatting," and you can hide this by clearing the check box for
"Keep track of formatting" on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.
