How do I sort names in Address book last name first?

I cannot display the contacts in the personal address book as last name,
first name. I have repeated the instructions to change the order of the names
several times

Tools-->Email account-->VIew or change existing directories or address
books-->next-->outlook address book-->change-->contacts:personal
folders-->show names by: file as (Smith, John)-->close-->finish

However, these instructions do not work for the Address book, only the
Contacts. Is there no way to have the Address book sort contacts with last
name and perhaps not repeat the contact names if there are multiple email
addresses for a contact? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

These instructions do work for the Outlook Address Book.
They do not work for the Personal Address Book, which has not been in use
for many years. I can't think why you'd be using one.
All electronic addresses will display in the Outlook Address Book because
that's what most users prefer.

I have the same problem as this user, as does every person in my entire
department. No matter how you try to change to order of the contacts listed
in the Outlook Address Book, they will not display last name first. I posted
this question a while ago and received an answer from a different MVO-Outlook
person who told me that the order of the name could NOT be changed in the
Address Book. I also would assume that the user is speaking of the Outlook
Address book even though he said Personal Address Book.

You most certainly can change the sort order of the Outlook Address Book to
follow the File As... format using the instructions I posted. The two most
likely reasons it is not working for you:
1. You failed to restart the service
2. You have not configured the File As... field to be in LN, FN format
