You don't. Log on to each computer and check the mail....

If I receive mail from my ISP into outlook folders on computer 1, then later
receive mail from my ISP into outlook folders on computer 2, it seems to me
that I wouldn't be able to see all the email from either computer. I thought
that if I could make the folders shared, outlook could show me the same
folders and emails, for the same email address, on all the home networked
computers. Is there some other way to make outlook functionally similar on a
home network to the way it works with an exchange server?

While it's not supported, it can be done. I've described it in this very
group before. See
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.outlook.general/msg/8ddebc98e9c60ffc .
Note that if you have rules, they will be affected by this arrangement.
