If I am trying to go into a specific file that someone else is using how can
I set it up for me to know who is in that file without having to get out of
my seat and ask everyone? I want the program to let me know who is i that
file at the time I try to access it. What is it that I have to do to have
the program give me this information when I click on the file? Please help
me with step by step instructions? Thank you in advance.

Tanya,

You can't do this with macros.

If you are referring to an Access backend database being accessed via a
network, then of course there could be a number of users connected to it
at any given time.

The information at http://www.mvps.org/access/modules/mdl0055.htm may be
relevant to you.

Steve,
we have a log database set up where no more than one person can be in it at
a time, but if someone else needs to go into it, is there a way that a flag
can come up saying who is in that particular DB??? In Excel you r notified
who is in a particular spreadsheet and the program asks do u want to open it
as read only. This is what I need to know, can Access be set up to do the
same thing? If so, how can it be done & must it be done by the IT people
from the backend??? Please help me?

Tanya,

Well, the first temptation is to ask why only one person at a time can
access it.

Anyway, did you look at the article I referred you to?
