Two things you can do, use a WordArt box. Select the Insert WordArt button
on the drawing toolbar, choose one of the thumbnails in the last column all
relating to vertical text, select font and size, type your text and hit OK.
Or just choose the textbox icon on the drawing toolbar, click (don't drag)
on your slide, start typing one letter at a time and pressing enter after
each letter.
Does this help?

If youre trying to label something then you might find that text rotated 90
deg right looks better.

Need to view a word in a box to view vertical. example:

P
r
o
d
u
c
t

More or less the same way you did it here except that you might want to type:

P [Shift+Enter]
r [Shift+Enter]
o [Shift+Enter]

Press Enter between words rather than [Shift+Enter]

It generally looks better if you make the text center aligned.

You can use Format, Line Spacing to adjust vertical spacing ... line spacing
will adjust space between letters in a word, paragraph spacing will adjust
space between words.
