When writing contemporary letter I don't seem to be able to save a copy to
file with the original date. All I get is the current date. I need a simple
solution if possible.

Sorry this is the MS Access (the database program) newsgroup. Try a
newsgroup devoted to the program you are using. You should find people
better able to address your problem there than here.

If you mean a date in the body of a letter written with MS Word, you
need to check the properties of it. File date is a different matter.

Don't use a template, and create the date for yourself. If you do use a
template you need to understand how it was created. In this case you need
to change the date field from today's date to date created, and to do that
you need to understand about fields. Look up help on fields, or avoid the
template.

WORD questions should generally be asked in a WORD newsgroup because that's
where the WORD experts are.
