How do I save a Photo Galary to a WEB site using Front Page.

J

jim

Hello Group:

I created a large photo galary from the Front page template,
"photo galary".

Then I tried to save it to My Documents/My Web/Folder Location ...

and I get this window that says ...

"To save this page and photo galary, open a FrontPage based web site,
and save the page to that site."

This is the directions in FrontPage Help to open a web site:

"
Open a web site

On the File menu, click Open Web, and then do one of the following:

Open a disk-based web site on your local computer
In the Open Web dialog box, use the Look In box to find the local folder
containing web sites. In the list of web sites, select the web site you
want, and then click Open.

Open a disk-based web site on a computer located on a network
In the Open Web dialog box, use the Look in box to find the network
drive and folder containing the web site you want to open.
In the list of web sites, select the web site you want, and then
click Open.

Open a web site on a Web server
In the Open Web dialog box, in the Web Name box, type the URL of the
web site, and then click Open.
Note To open a subweb (subweb: A named subdirectory of the root
web site that is a complete FrontPage-based web site. Each subweb
can have independent administration, authoring and browsing permissions
from the root web site and other subwebs. ) displayed in the Folder
List of another web site, double-click the subweb.

Tips

If you already have a web site open, each subsequent web site will
open in a new Microsoft FrontPage window. To open recently edited
web sites, on the File menu, click Recent Webs, and then click the
web site you want. To open a web site by using the History, My
Documents, Desktop, Favorites, or My Network Places icon in the
Open Web dialog box, click the desired icon. By default, Microsoft
FrontPage automatically opens the last web site you worked on. You
can turn this option off.

How?

On the Tools menu, click Options, and then clear the Open last web
automatically when FrontPage starts check box.
"

So I do this one, since my web site is hosted on the web ...

Open a web site on a Web server

In the Open Web dialog box, in the Web Name box,
type the URL of the web site, and then click Open.

Then, I get a window that says ...

"The Floder, "URL WEB Address" is not accessable.
The folder may be located in an unaccessable location,
protected with a password or the file name contains a \ or a /"

I have FrontPage extensions installed at this WEB site also.

It doesnt like it either way. I spent all this time building this page
and now I can't save this photo galary anywhere? Anyone have any ideas?

You have to create the photo gallery in a web that is currently open, you
can't create it and then save or move it.

Is there anyway I can keep from loosing all this work I put into this Photo
Galary. Can I just save it to a hard drive, log in to the WEB site, then ftp
it into the site?

If you're using FP Photogallery and you create the photogallery within an FP web AND you use FP Publish (not FTP) you won't have any problems. (except for the normal photogallery limitations).

If you're using a third party gallery generator you have to do some experimenting...generally importing third party generated albums works ok.

Crash,

Thanks for the reply,

No, this Photo Galary was generated completely inside Front Page 2002, but
it wont let me save to the local disk nor log into the web site to save it
there either. I can turn my computer off because FP wont let me save all
this work I have dont putting it together anywhere. I'm there has to be a
solution besides just loosing it all and starting over. Please advise.
Thanks very much ...

I'm afraid I really don't understand the problem. If you are creating the photogallery within FP, on your local machine, when you save the web it automatically saves your photogallery. Why are you trying to save it somewhere else? If that's what you are trying to do...don't --- save it within the FP web.

Did you actually create a web or are you working with loose pages?

Do you have a URL we can at least look at some of what you've done so far?

That's what I thought...you have to create a web first (or open an existing web first) on your local machine. Sounds like you just created a loose page with the photogallery on it. Key word being Web.
