How do I retain original date

When I bring up a report in office xp Word the date changes on the report.
This week I wanted to fax a copy of a report done two weeks ago to the
customer. The customer had misplaced the report I gave him by hand the day
it was done. Word changed the date to yesterday. This can lead to problems.
How do I stop this from happening?

Thanks

Right-click the date, select "Toggle field codes", type the word "CREATE"
before the word "DATE", right-click and toggle the field codes again.

As has been explained, you need to change the field to a CreateDate field.
For future work, you can download an Add-In from <URL:
http://addbalance.com/word/download.htm> that will change Alt-Shift-D to
insertion of a CreateDate field instead of a Date field.

You will almost certainly need to update the field after making the change -
