How do I remove TOC fields from the printed page?

I am unable to remove TOC fields from the printed page. That is, the TOC
brackets etc. show up on the printed page as well as on the screen.
 
In Word, click on Tools | Options | Print | uncheck the "Field
codes" box | OK.
