How do I remove all the ati service stuff?

Hi,

I recently built myself a new machine, which now has my AIW 8500DV. My
old machine (this one) now has an old voodoo3 I had kicking about.

Before I removed the ati card I uninstalled every ATI driver I could
find.

The trouble is that even now I find my system event list (win2k) gets
several entries every boot complaining that various ATI WDM services
could not start and it's really starting to annoy me.

Needless to say I can't find them in the list of services, so I guess
a visit to the registry is required. Can anyone point me at the right
bits?

Cheers

install the capture drivers, then the display drivers, then reboot.

There's a thread on Rage3D which discusses this, Dodgy, and should give you
a good idea of what registry keys/values to remove for cleaning your system,
except for the Run key entries (see later in this post), which are probably
what your problem is. It's still worth cleaning out your registry, though.

Alternatively, you could try downloading RegCleaner from
http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/index.php. It's a very useful registry editor:
basically, it sorts the main registry entries for your software by
manufacturer so you can, say, just select all the ATi entries and Remove
them. It apparently won't let you remove entries for which removal might
harm your system, and it's got a backup facility in case you want to restore
anything you've removed. My experience is that under W98 it removes every
entry mentioned in the Rage3D forum.

There are, however, also the Run entries which are what you're having
problems with. These aren't dealt with in the Rage3D forum and aren't
displayed for removal by regCleaner. There are two ways of dealing with
these: you can run the System Configuration Utility (msconfig - don't know
what the equivalent is in W2K) and untick the ATi entries on the Startup
tab, or you can remove the ATi entries in the various Run folders in the
registry. These are in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion - just look in
all the keys that start with Run - this is under W98 again. I'm sure you
can translate it to W2K.

Don't forget to backup your registry before you try it (and if you don't
know how to backup your registry, you shouldn't be doing this). Needless to
say, if you're not happy with editing the registry, DON'T! You can achieve
the same ends with RegCleaner and deselecting entries in the System
Configuration Utility.
