how do I remove a microsoft downloaded patch

sharon

I downloaded update patches from the microsoft site for my
windows xp. Unfortunately, I later found out from bell
south (my dsl provider) that because I have a compaq
computer that I should download the patches from the hp
website, if I don't then with windows xp patches
downloaded for compaq computers then my system will begin
to run very slowly and have problems. They were correct.
I was ble to uninstall all patches except XP HotFix (SP2).
When I ask for information it says to see KB810243. How
can I remove it?

Thanks,

Is it in your add/remove list?

If not, then ?. It says nothing in the article about uninstalling.

Being a Compaq user, I think your provider is at a loss
over what your problem is and is giving you wrong info.
All the HP website has is a link to Windows Updates - the
same Windows Updates that you get by hitting "Windows
Updates" in the Start menu. Something else is going on if
you are having problems. The updates you should avoid (and
only used as a last resort) are the driver updates and the
other updates that aren't critical hotfixes. Those are
best left alone - especially drivers. Some models are real
picky about not having Compaq drivers.

We have a broadband connection with a cable modem, and
there is no way I'll let my Compaq access the
internet "naked".... stripped of it's hotfixes. No way.

Sometimes problems are simple to solve. Firewalls are
frequently the problem. There are specific problems with
XP upgrades and repairs that afflict all XP installations
and some Compaqs have specific problems with specific
models with SP1 and HP/Compaq has a fix for that. And
problems can be created by preinstalled ISP software with
specific models.

Anwyays, I think you should share your problems and see if
anyone can help with them, and use Compaq Communities, or
if you are under software warrenty, seek tech support.

Stripping the critical updates from your Compaq is a
dangerous move.
