My computer is completely hosed. I want to reinstall Windows XP operating
system. How do I do that? I don't have XP on a disk, but I believe there's
a backup copy stored on the HD, isn't there? Any help would be great.

Thanks!

The manufacturer should have given you a system restore CD or instructions
on how to reinstall things. Check your owner's manual.

Thanks Jerry. Anyone else have any recommendations?

Thanks!

if a backup copy is on your hd you should have a backup floppy disk or cd
disk to start the restore,
if you have a floppy disk shut down the pc put the disk in and turn the pc
on and just follow that it says on the screen!.
if you don`t have these search the pc makers website for a restore floppy
disk program then download the data on to a floppy disk

Hi BioBren,

You haven't given us enough information to help you. what is the make
& model of the computer you have? Did the computer come with any CDs?
Does the BIOS boot screen say anything about hit a specific key to
start a restore?

These answers make a difference, because some laptops for example have
WinXP on a hidden partition and you have to hit a function key to get
it to restore the computer. Answer the above questions, and I'm sure
someone here might be able to help.
