Duplicate OS on C:\ after reinstall

I reinstalled xp from the disk yesterday, it appears however that there are
two copies of my operating system and the reinstall was not entirely
successful. When I Startup there is a screen just before the MSNxp logo that
prompts me to select between two Mircosoft Windows Home Editions. There are
also some files that I have not yet reloaded nor redownloaded that I still
had access to after the reformat, leading me to believe that corrupt data
from the previous version might still exist and cause problems in the future.

What do I need to do to rectify this? Is there some way of removing the
other copy of Windows? Do i need to start over?

Hello Jeff,

If the original install is corrupt and the reinstall is incomplete then
the best way to proceed is to reinstall. When you reinstalled, an
existing installation was detected and you probably just clicked past
the option to install over the existing installation, so that Windows
was reinstalled into another folder, making a duplicate installation.
When you redo it, select to format the drive/partition at the beginning
of the install routine.
But first, make sure you first save your important files and data off
to removable media or a separate partition first. You could also use
the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to backup your Documents and
Settings. It's located in Start => Program Files => Accessories =>
System Tools.
