Is there a way to reinstall after uninstalling IE 6? I think that the program has somehow been corrupted as small windows do not open up web pages like they used to a few days ago. I cannot simply download it from the Microsoft Website and attempt to install it because it says my current version is already newer than the one I have downloaded.

And your Windows version is...?

Copy/paste the following line into an IE Addressbar, click on GO, then
copy/paste the results into your reply:

javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion

Cute. (Not)

That tells me either you've not been to Windows Update in a while or a visit
there since 02 Feb-04 was unsuccessful.

If the former, check in at Windows Update now. Among the updates offered
will be Q832894 (Feb-04 Cumulative Security Update for IE): Its install
/may/ solve your problems. To assure a clean install, your anti-virus
application should be disabled and all other running processes closed before
going to Windows Update and when downloading/installing from any MS page.

If the latter, see if 'Internet Explorer Q832894' is listed in Add/Remove
Programs. Also look for errors associated with your last Windows Update
visit in Windows Update.log and/or iuhist.xml (both are files on your HDD).
Compare any errors to those listed at
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/.

If and when you post back, tell us what "small windows do not open up web
pages like they used to a few days ago" means.

We are now assuming you're running WinXP-SP1(a) but until you confirm this
we're only assuming.

Upon attempting to install critical updates from Windows update...the
download dialogue box showed up but no download took place it just
sat there without downloading or installing anything. Also upon
going to the protect your pc site I received a message saying that
this automatic page requires IE 6.O and win xp. I don't get it,
aside from 3 critical updates which I cannot download and install
(kb832894, kb828028 and Kb826939) I do believe I have an updates
version of IE....also by saying which windows don't open up I mean
any link which opens up a smaller window in a separate window..
Examples I have encountered are; any mail message from aol.com, the
games applet for the game rooms on yahoo.com games, and my log on
page for my bank's online banking area. thank you for you
assistance.

Windows Update Fails:
Disable your firewall and anti-virus when obtaining the updates.
