How do I put dots on a line in powerpoint?

I am trying the connectors but they either move when I click another spot or
they just stay put. I can't add more than one circle. I need a straight line,
with about 6 dots all on the line to show a timeline of sorts.

If I understand correctly(?) try this

Draw a line, now draw a small circle and drag to correct place on line.
repeat until you have enough circles. Drag a selection box to select the line
and the cirvles (or use ctrl click then right click it >grouping > group

Did that answer the question / help?

The easiest way I can think of is to draw the line, then make 6 "dots" (using
small filled circles or any shape you want), then place them roughly along
the line where you want. Select them all and the line itself, then use the
DRAW - ALIGN or DISTRIBUTE - ALIGN MIDDLE to line them all up. To space them
equally along the line, move the left-most and right-most to the positions
you want them, then select the just the six dots again and use the DRAW -
ALIGN or DISTRIBUTE - DISTRIBUTE HORIZONTALLY function.

Hope that helps!
