how do i put a check mark in a word doc. box ?

I have a word document with a check box and I can not figure out how to
toggle a check mark into it?
 
I found I could just us the insert symbol to get it done, the F9 key and
typing the MacroButtom checkit was a long way about the barn but worked too.
Thanks for the good direction.
 
Well, if you need an occasional check box, Insert | Symbol is quite
sufficent. The article is for setting up a template.
