How do I prevent Outlook from terminating my dial-up connection?

When I send an e-mail, Outlook automatically terminates my connection to my
local internet provider, necessitating a re-dial. This is aggravating.
Where is the setting to prevent automatic ending of the connection?

Version of Outlook?

Current version: Try tools, accounts, view or change existing accounts,
select the account and click Change then more settings - look on the
connection tab. I recommend removing the check from the account completely
so outlook uses whatever connection is available but you can select a
specific account.
